Capella’s Summer Dance Camp & June Classes!

You can stop by Capella’s to register June 12th, 13th, or 14th between 9am-12pm. If you are not available to stop by during these dates/times you can email Angela directly at angela@capellasdancestudio.com. Please include childs name, age, and which camp in the email.

 

Tiny TuTu Camp

We will enjoy Ballet and Tap dancing; create memories with special arts and crafts, tea parties, and storytelling.

 3 & 4 Year Olds: June 19th, 20th, & 22nd  4:30-6:30PM

5 & 6 Year Olds: June 26th, 27th, & 29th 4:30-6:30PM

3 & 4 Year Olds: July 10th, 11th, 13th 9:30-11:30AM

5 & 6 Year Olds: July 17th, 18th, & 20th 9:30-11:30AM

Stretch, Leaps, and Turns

Deep stretching to improve flexibility to take your leaps to the next level. Spotting and balance drills to master multiple turns.

Ages 7 & Up July 10th & 17th 5:30-7:30PM

Hip Hop & Tumbling

Learn different combos incorporating new tumbling tricks.

Ages 7 & Up July 11th & 18th 5:30-7:30PM

Ballet & Tap

Ballet: Focus on port de bras and turnout to improve your technique.

Tap: Improve rhythm and body control as well as precision and accuracy.

Ages 7 & Up July 13th & 20th 5:30-7:00PM

Dance is much much more than a once-weekly extra curricular activity for young girls.  It is a sport, it is a creative outlet, and for some it is a lifestyle.  Adult dance is not something that many people think to participate in, but at Capella’s we offer many adult classes.  There are several benefits you can gain from adult dance.

First and foremost, adult dance reduces stress levels.  There are so many things that are going on that could cause you stress and anxiety, and dance can take it all away.  Any type of exercise is vital to your mental health and emotional health.  But dance is proven to be the biggest stress reliever of them all!

Secondly, dancing is an awesome and fun way to burn calories.  Often times, working out is looked at as a chore and isn’t an enjoyable thing for most people.  However, dance is something fun that you will look forward to doing!

Believe it or not, adult dance can help improve your memory.  When you are constantly having to remember 8 counts and different choreography, your brain is being put to work!  Studies have shown that dance classes are a great preventative tool for memory loss and dementia.  Retaining choreography helps aide a healthy mind!

The History of Dance

Dance is considered a performance art form that consists of selected arrangements of human movement. The movement will have aesthetic as well as symbolic value and will be acknowledged as dance through observers or performers within a certain culture. Dance could also be categorized and could be described through its choreography and by its repertoire of those movements or through place of origin or historical period. But what is the history of dance?

It is believed that the history of dance could be difficult to access since dance doesn’t provided clear identity of the physical artifacts which last over time. And it is not also clear if when the dance becomes part of the culture in humanity. Based on studies, there is still a history of dance.

For early dance, it was considered as important part of rituals, ceremony, entertainment and celebration even before the earliest civilizations. There are archaeologists that have delivered traces of dance coming from prehistoric times. And it is also believed that dance is considered a method used for healing and also for expression.

Dance is being used as a method for healing rituals by numbers of cultures coming from rainforest in Brazil and to the Kalahi Desert. It is believed that danses macabres of Medieval European were able to protect the participants from diseases but there were also instances wherein the hysteria or the duration of the dances led to death because of exhaustion. In addition, Sri Lankan dance went back into the mythological times of the aboriginal Yingyangs as well as the Yakkas or the devils. Based on the legend of Sinhalese, Kandyan dances have originated 2500 years ago. And it came from magic ritual which broke the spell of the bewitched king. And there are numbers of contemporary dances that could be traced back into the traditional, historical, ethnic and ceremonial dances.

In terms of being used as a method for expression, dance is being used in performances and also for telling myths. Dance was also used in order to show feelings towards someone with opposite gender. Dance was also linked with the origin of love making. It is as well one among the methods used in order to pass stories down from a generation to another prior to the production of written languages. In Europe, one among the earliest records of dance would be through Homer wherein Iliad described Chorea.
